Business 360

The Walsh College Business 360 certificate program introduces the fundamental business concepts and tools that can help individuals develop core competencies in business and management. This non-credit certificate program is a fast-track foundation for those who are seeking to learn business skills to complement their professional experience and who may not have a business degree.

Accounting for Non-Accountants Workshop
Some call accounting the language of business. Become business bi-lingual by learning the basics of analyzing, recording, summarizing, reporting, reviewing and interpreting financial language.
  • Learn about the fundamental concepts of accounting
  • Understand double entry bookkeeping
  • Assess the financial health of a business
  • Interpret annual reports
  • Understand the basics of managerial accounting

Accounting Instructors
Dr. Maria Gistinger has been an adjunct professor for Walsh College since January of 2007.  She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Saginaw Valley State University.  She received a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Michigan State University.  Maria is a Certified Public Accountant with 3 years of public accounting experience, and 20 years of school finance experience.

Fail to plan or plan to fail. It may be a familiar maxim, but it still rings true. Discover the core principles and techniques for determining competitive advantages and core competencies, developing a business plan, and assessing that plan’s effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Use SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) to determine competitive advantages
  • Identify core business competencies
  • Develop a business plan
  • Establish strategic goals, objectives and performance assessment strategies
  • Assess the business plan’s goals and objectives against performance
  • Use value chain and integration analysis to determine the nature of the company’s business

Marketing Management Workshop

Learn about the basic concepts, tools, and practical application of marketing theory that will help you to capture marketplace growth opportunities through improved customer understanding..
• Employ consumer research and competitive analysis to understand the marketplace  
• Discuss market segmentation, targeting and positioning methods
• Develop integrated marketing strategies incorporating product, price, place and promotion strategies
• Course incorporates current events and extensive use of hands-on activities

This is a 2-session workshop. "As this was my first glimpse into marketing, I found all of it very interesting. What stuck with me is, the value chain and research methods.
Exercises were wonderful. Instructor is top notch and knowledgeable."



Economics Workshop
This workshop provides an overview of basic micro-, macro-, and global economic concepts that will provide attendees with analysis and decision-making skills related to issues, events and trends in the local, national and global economy.
  • Learn about the basic micro-economic concepts of opportunity cost, supply and demand, and elasticities
  • Understand and identify market structure
  • Discover the basic macro-economic concepts of variables, indicators and policies
  • Explore global economics such as global economic growth, balance of payments and the exchange rate system

Finance for the Non-Financial Manager Workshop
Learn to integrate financial concepts and policies with real-world business. From securing sources of business financing to determining the optimal mix of debt and equity, this workshop will prepare you to improve budget management, increase potential profits and assess the financial viability of your ventures.

  • Select the most-promising investments using Net Present Value, Internal Rate of Return, payback and real options valuation
  • Learn how business financing is secured through financial intermediaries and capital markets
  • Analyze investment performance using Return on Investment, Return on Equity, Economic Value Added and Spreads
  • Determine the optimal mix of debit and equity by exploring the concepts of capital structure, leverage and break-even

Not being a "numbers" person - I was hesitant to take this class.  Dr. Wiechowski was excellent at explaining the principles in a clear, concise manner.”


 

 

Business Law Basics Workshop
Attend and acquire a basic understanding of the building blocks of business law. From legal business structures to contract, credit and lease agreements, this workshop is designed to impart critical legal business concepts.

  • Learn about the Uniform Commercial Code for Michigan

Operations Management Workshop
Operations management can be simply defined: it’s the skill of organizing the process of getting things done. This workshop focuses on efficiency and effectiveness as the core components of a successful business.

  • Employ flow diagrams to diagnose capacity
  • Identify and manage capacity constraints

Organizational Behavior Workshop
